ICSEI

As stated in the Constitution of the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement (ICSEI):

The purpose of ICSEI is to enhance the quality and equity of education for all students in elementary (primary) and secondary schools.

Established in 1988, ICSEI's mission has been to pursue this purpose through the sharing of research and practice across national boundaries, cultures, languages and conventions of schooling. ICSEI provides a forum for researchers, policy makers, school leaders, scholars and professional developers to share ideas, promote research, and encourage practices that will make schools better places for children and for those who teach and lead them.

The major driving forces behind ICSEI's growth over the past two decades have been the publication of an international journal and annual conferences held at sites throughout the world. London hosted the first ICSEI conference in 1988. Since that time, conference sites have included Rotterdam (1989), Jerusalem (1990), Cardiff (1991), Victoria (1992), Norrkoping (1993), Melbourne (1994), Leuwarden (1995), Minsk (1996), Memphis (1997), Manchester (1998), San Antonio (1999), Hong Kong (2000), Copenhagen (2001), Toronto (2002), Sydney (2003), Rotterdam (2004), Barcelona (2005), Florida (2006), Slovenia (2007), and Auckland (2008). More than 70 countries have participated in ICSEI conferences.
